Harmonizing Humanity: Voice, Chant, and the Universal Language of Peace

This transformative workshop explores how voice and chant serve as powerful instruments for inspiring peace and harmony across cultures and communities worldwide. Through the convergence of two pioneering approaches to musical peacebuilding, Chandrika Tandon’s Grammy winning sacred sound work and Emanuel C Perlman’s Universal Anthem Sasha Eha Tozi Hawoo®, participants will experience how ancient wisdom and contemporary innovation unite to bridge divides and foster global understanding.

This session will demonstrate how structured vocal and chanting practices can serve as catalysts for emotional resonance, cross cultural communication, and collective healing. Drawing on case studies from Tandon’s performances at iconic venues including the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, and the World Culture Festivals across Europe and India, alongside Perlman’s implementations across Africa, the U.K., and beyond, participants will discover evidence-based approaches to using voice as a vehicle for peace education and community transformation.

The workshop will include:

• Sacred Sound as Universal Language: Exploration of how mantras, chants, and universal phonetic frameworks transcend linguistic barriers

• Multi-Faith Dialogue Through Music: Techniques for creating harmonious encounters across diverse spiritual traditions

• Interactive Vocal Experiences: Guided exercises in both accessible Sanskrit chanting and Sasha Eha Tozi Hawoo®

• Practical Applications: Strategies for integrating these approaches into vocal pedagogy, therapy, interfaith work, peace curriculum, and community programs

• Research and Evidence: Presentation of case studies and outcomes demonstrating measurable impact on cross-cultural understanding and conflict resolution
