Relationship of voice disturbances in performers due to reflux and respiratory allergies signs
Objective:The performers can have different complaints due to other causes like reflux and allergies.We analyze this group of performers.
In the performers with disturbances in the changes of middle range to high range lack of flexibility and lack of brilliance.
Methods .-These patients were examined with 70 and 90 degrees rigid endoscopes and under stroboscopy the larynx. With flexible endoscope we explore the nose. .
Results: In 200 performers with these complaints we found in 80 % redness of the arytenoid area with edema in the aryteno-esophageal area and hyperemia in the posterior third of the vocal folds free edges.
In these patients was ordered a compulsory esophageal radiography series esophagram with examination either in breath or in blood the presence of helicobacter pilorii.
In 35% of the cases the examinations for helicobacter pilorii were negative. In 65% were positive and received antibiotic special treatment with PPI .
We found in the esophagram 40% small hiatal hernia and in 15 % esophageal inferior sphincter incompetence.
The examination of these performers include tomography of sinuses and nose
70 % of the group had hypertrophy of the inferior turbinates, 35% ethmoidal sinusitis 10% maxillar sinusitis 15% sphenoidal sinusitis , septum deviation with collapse of the valves in 20%.
Polypoid degeneration of the mucosa with hypertrophy of the inferior turbinates was surgically treated with radiofrequency.
Respiratory and food allergies were tested by RAST.
We explore the relationship between esophageal sign, laryngeal signs and symptoms and the nose and sinuses pathology due to allergic reactions.
Conclusion:the performers need to be examined very intensively and detailed even though they only complain about artistic voice
