Authentic Voicework™: Yoga of the Voice

Abstract

Title: “Authentic Voicework™: Yoga of the Voice – A Holistic Approach to Vocal Expression”

Objective:
My workshop, “Authentic Voicework: Yoga of the Voice,” aims to empower participants to achieve vocal expressiveness by integrating relaxation techniques, enhancing the body-mind connection, and fostering courage in self-expression.

Methods / Design:
In this 50-minute session at The Voice Foundation’s Annual Symposium, we employ a hands-on, experiential learning approach. Participants engage in relaxation exercises as the foundation of vocal mastery, with three key elements: Vocal Yoga, breath awareness, and singing games designed to unleash creativity.

Vocal Yoga: Gentle exercises relax and align the body, promoting inner calm.
Breath Awareness: Techniques connect breath to emotion and expression.
Creativity Unleashed: Activities tap into participants’ creative potential.

Results:
Through our innovative approach, participants experience immediate benefits, such as reduced performance anxiety, increased self-confidence, and a deeper connection with their voices. These results are observed during the session itself as attendees engage with the techniques and exercises.

Conclusions:
“Authentic Voicework: Yoga of the Voice” offers a transformative journey for enhancing vocal abilities and self-expression. We integrate relaxation techniques with yogic and meditative exercises, providing a holistic approach to vocal training. The workshop concludes with attendees leaving not only with improved vocal skills but also with a sense of empowerment and authenticity in their expression.

We are excited to present this holistic approach at The Voice Foundation’s Annual Symposium, contributing to the enhancement of authentic vocal expression in the field of voice.
