Enhancing Vocal Skills Through Dual-Task Training: Practical Applications and Correlation of Cognitive Functions and Voice Rehabilitation

Objective: In this workshop, based on an our radomised controlled study, we will explore the practical application of cognitive functions's principles in voice training, with the goal of enhancing the effectiveness of long-term vocal rehabilitation through early automatisation. Participants will investigate innovative assessment and treatment protocols that merge vocal technique with executive-attentional training, incorporating dual-task training for singers.

Methods/Design: The session will begin with a brief introduction summarising key cognitive influences in vocal learning, focusing particularly on the role of dual-task training. Participants will engage in hands-on exercises designed to explore ideal training paradigms specific to voice training, allowing for real-time application of discussed concepts. We will examine significant factors influencing cognitive resources, competition among cognitive tasks, working memory task and interference task. Through dual-task scenarios, participants will learn to adjust voice training techniques based on neuropsychological principles such as minimal variation, maximum gradualness, and self-regulation.

Results: By participating in this workshop, attendees will experience firsthand how optimizing cognitive resources can accelerate the automatisation of foundational vocal actions. This will free up attention for more complex tasks, demonstrating the potential of dual-task training in enhancing vocal skills.

Conclusions: This workshop will provide insights into the utility of dual-task models in voice training and rehabilitation, suggesting a possible paradigm shift in vocal training methods. Participants will leave with practical strategies to improve long-term skill retention and adaptability in various performance contexts, laying the groundwork for future empirical studies rich with possibilities in perceptual-motor learning.
