Crohn’s Disease in a Classical Singer: Impact on Laryngeal Structures, Voice Production, and Quality of Life

This study investigates the impact of Crohn's Disease (CD) and its treatment on a classical singing student's larynx, voice production, and quality of life. CD can result in extraintestinal manifestations, including laryngeal involvement, impacting professional singers significantly. There is limited research on CD's effect on singers and treatment responses. An 18-year-old female singer with CD undergoing Inflectra treatment participated in a multiple-measure case study. Voice assessments (self-report, perceptual, acoustic, aerodynamic) and laryngeal imaging measures were taken before and after each infusion cycle. The study aimed to improve understanding of CD's impact on singers, advocate for better insurance coverage, foster collaboration between professionals, and inform future research in this under-explored area.
