Abstract Title

How to Use Coaching Strategies for Voice Therapy and Training.

Abstract

Coaching facilitates positive changes to achieve a goal, usually through indirect approaches, including improving an individual’s outlook on their behaviors or attitudes.

This workshop aims to present and demonstrate three coaching strategies for achieving better and faster results from voice therapy or training.

Participants will train in the following strategies: conscious organizational listening, to understand the basis of the vocal condition and correct distortions in concepts about the voice; implementation intention, for modifying inappropriate vocal behaviors and improving vocal regulation; and powerful questions about goals, vision, planning, vocal strategies and for monitoring vocal evolution.

These strategies are useful resources of meta therapy and besides improving the
alliance between clinician and patient, they help individuals to reduce
barriers to changing vocal habits and achieve goals in vocal therapy or
training. The speech-language pathologist voice specialist can apply
these strategies, particularly in cases of behavioral dysphonias, which can be
resistant to traditional voice therapy.

This is a highly interactive workshop with a role-play demonstration with participants.
Examples of managing difficult situations will be offered.
