Abstract Title

Hips Functionality in Voice Treatment and Training of Treatment/Training Refractory Voices: Three Cases Study.

Abstract

My Poster of last year TVF Symposium on sitting and hips/sacro-iliac joint comes from a practice, mine, specialised since many years on the development of functional voices. In the original part of my practice hips centred exercises have often a great place especially for not perfectly developed voices, or chronically not developed voices. In here I present three different cases for age, voice skills or lack of, presenting chronic impaired voices resistant to therapies or training all solved by exercises mostly on the functionality of hips joints and using the contribution/transfer of hips focused bodywork into voice production. The exercises are common actors/dancers/athletic ones modified for voice purposes or mine original. Three months of biweekly sessions.. A little boy of 7 years old dysphonic, stutterer, expressing himself with gestures and not verbally at school, three years of speech therapy with no improvement: he made his theatre school recital saying effectively all his words after two months and sing some Justin Bieber, after three months he could currently speak and a reduced stuttering to 30% of the starting point. Stable after one year with no exercises at all. The second is with an amateur singer, speaking impaired and impossible the singing after thyroidectomy, chronic low calcium levels. An hypotonic chord, the speaking improved with speech therapy (good contralateral action of the right chord, left one still hypotonic), singing still impossible. Her original singing colour appeared from the sixth session, she could sing again as soloist after five months, stable and stroboscopy showing a perfect vibrating reactive adduction one year after the end of the program. The last an aspiring jazz singer, being a dance teacher when we started. Voice student since more than ten years, chronically limited in extension, unreliable pitch, no dynamics or expressivity, chronic precontact, nodules and an haematoma when we started. All regressed in 7 weeks, after one year she won an international competition and had her first cd produced; she is now a singer, Conservatory jazz voice teacher.
Hips joints functionality present a convenient training and rehabilitation tool, convenient to be added into existing practices and those cases are an example of its relevant role suggesting that could be of interest studying deeper the question.
