Abstract Title

Let it Go! Your Vocal Power, Unleashed…

Abstract

The aim of this workshop, ministered by a professional actress and singer and a voice specialist, is to explore strategies for vocal freedom. The human voice, in its final stage, is a highly specialized neuromuscular process. However, vocal output depends on vocal behavior, and, in turn, vocal behavior depends on emotions, which are the consequence of our thoughts. Because it’s more concrete, we often focus primarily on vocal output, analyzing the auditory and acoustic parameters of a voice sample and, based on them, making decisions to modify muscle adjustments and vocal behavior. In this workshop, we will explore the reverse route with participants, exploring mental, emotional, and bodily strategies for freeing the voice, regardless of the purpose of using the professional voice, whether spoken or sung. Intuitive information will be presented alongside scientific information, understanding two main aspects of skill acquisition: the brain registers information more easily using metaphors, and emotion is the glue of learning. The AGES MODEL, a learning model based on Social Neuroscience, underpins these demonstrations. The essence of this model is ATTENTION – maximum focus to capture and maintain attention; GENERATION OF ASSOCIATION – time, opportunity, and personal meaning to generate insights; EMOTION – the stronger the associated emotions, the better the learning, as emotions govern the process; and finally, SPACING – memorization is better when we learn in a variety of situations. Decoding your voice is key. Demonstrations and training with the participants will take place.
