The first StrobeOscars, a red-carpet event, took place at the Annual Symposium: Care of the Professional Voice in 2012.  Despite divisive discussion, the Academy was able to give a clear victory to the following Strobes.

58 year-old male singer with recurrent post-performance dysphonia

-Coarse vocal quality, vocal fatigue and
restriction of upper range

-Post nasal drip, sour taste, halitosis,
mucous/phlegm

Singing Examination:

  • Tongue tension (corrected easily)
  • Fair abdominal support
  • Knees locked

Initial Stroboscopy:

  • Right superior laryngeal nerve paresis
  • Small left fibrotic true vocal fold mass with stiffness at its base and contralateral contact fullness
  • Mild bilateral Reinke’s edema
  • Laryngopharngeal reflux
  • Muscle tension dysphonia

Six Week Follow-Up

  • Patient reported marked improvement in range and quality
  • Laryngeal EMG – 20% right SLN paresis, MTD
  • Workup otherwise unremarkable
